GENDER INEQUALITY

Violence against women and the girl child constitutes a great violation of human rights and remains one of the greatest hindrances to gender equality. This treatment is commonly and prevalently done to the girl child especially by their fathers. They are denied their rights to education simply because their fathers or some men think that women's education ends in the kitchen. These people who think so should also know that killing of twins wasn't stopped by a man but by a lady named Mary Slessor, the richest blogger in Nigeria is not a male but a female named Linda Ifeoma Ikeji with a net worth of over $12 million. If these people were denied their rights to education, I guess they wouldn't have attained these heights. Why then do we prevent women most especially the girl child from going to school and achieving their dreams? They are also humans and should have equal rights as the men. Giving out the girl child to an early marriage destroys her future and exposes her to all sorts of challenges and trauma, physically, psychologically and so on and even exposes her to various health issues because she is not up to the age. Let us be wise enough to know that every one of us has equal rights irrespective of the gender. We all have a purpose for which we were brought to this world and we all have to achieve that. Why then should we prevent the girl child from fulfilling hers simply because of the stupid mindset that women's education ends in the kitchen. It is really heart-rending knowing that some fathers are the ones preventing their children most especially their daughters from achieving their dreams simply because they that they only gain bride price from their daughters. Why should you trade a young girl's happiness for money? Their happiness should be your first priority. Written by Ezechukwu Paul 08180030279
